George Coetzee claimed his second European Tour title on familiar territory at the Tshwane Open, after Jacques Blaauw had threatened to pull off a stunning victory with a course-record-equalling 61 on Sunday.

Blaauw, the world number 257, came from five shots behind at the start of the final day to set a challenging target for the final groups.

His superb round featured nine birdies and as many pars, lifting the unheralded South African to 13 under for the tournament.

However, Coetzee - one of three joint-leaders overnight - held his nerve with his rival in the clubhouse, carding a crucial birdie at 17 to move a shot clear at Pretoria Country Club, where he has been a member since childhood.

A par at the last ensured Coetzee, who had earlier picked up four birdies in five holes from the sixth, followed up his maiden European Tour success, which also came on home soil at last year's Joburg Open.

"To win at your own club in front of all your friends and family - the crowds were amazing," said a delighted Coetzee.

"I could just feel the momentum building and the crowd getting bigger and bigger towards the end - it's a great experience and a very special day for me."

Coetzee highlighted the value of his experience at the venue, adding: "I think I’ve got this course down after 18 years of playing golf. I think it played to my advantage knowing when to be aggressive and when not to.

"I threw one club championship away here by playing conservative on 17, so today it was quite an easy decision to hit driver."

Craig Lee and Adrian Otaegui, the other men to start Sunday at the summit of the leaderboard, went round in 70 and 71 to finish in respective ties for third and sixth.
