Brees stars in Saints win, Bell hurt
There were injuries aplenty as Drew Brees and Eli Manning put on a show in the NFL on Sunday.
Drew Brees and Eli Manning took centre stage as the New Orleans Saints edged the New York Giants 52-49 in an NFL thriller.
Saints quarterback Brees threw for 511 yards and seven touchdowns in the wild win over the Giants, who got six touchdown passes from Manning.
It was the second 500-yard passing game for Brees, who became the first quarterback since former Giant Y.A. Tittle in 1962 to throw for more than 500 yards and seven touchdowns.
The 13 combined touchdown passes in a single game were the most in NFL history and the 101 combined points were the third-most in NFL history.
Despite that, it was a kicker who was decisive as Kai Forbath kicked a 50-yard field goal as time ran out to secure the win for the Saints.
Sunday was not a good day for NFL running backs, with the season quickly becoming more and more a battle of attrition.
Le'Veon Bell suffered a nasty knee injury in the Pittsburgh Steelers' 16-10 loss to the undefeated Cincinnati Bengals.
Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte sustained a right knee injury during his team's 23-20 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Reggie Bush hurt his knee as the San Francisco 49ers' poor season continued, beaten 27-6 by the St Louis Rams.
In a battle between two unbeaten teams, the Denver Broncos came away 29-10 winners against the Green Bay Packers.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers passed for just 77 yards, while Peyton Manning finished with 340 for the Broncos.
Like the Saints and Vikings, the Baltimore Ravens needed a late field goal as Justin Tucker delivered from 39 yards in a 29-26 win over the San Diego Chargers.
Connor Barth's field goal saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers past the Atlanta Falcons 23-20 after overtime and Carson Palmer threw for four TDs in the Arizona Cardinals' 34-20 victory against the Cleveland Browns.
The Oakland Raiders claimed a 34-20 win over the New York Jets and the Seattle Seahawks held on to beat the Dallas Cowboys 13-12.
At Wembley, the Kansas City Chiefs thrashed the Detroit Lions 45-10, while the Houston Texans overcame the Tennessee Titans 20-6.
