Blues' Berglund to miss four months following shoulder surgery
Patrik Berglund initially dislocated his shoulder during the 2013-14 season, but has suffered a recurrence while training this off-season.
St Louis Blues forward Patrik Berglund will have shoulder surgery on Friday, team president and general manager Doug Armstrong has announced.
The procedure will keep the seven-year veteran out for four months, when he will be re-evaluated.
Sweden native Berglund initially dislocated his shoulder during the 2013-14 season, but re-injured his shoulder while training this offseason. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Rick Wright of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
The 6-3, 217-pound Berglund tallied 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in 77 regular season games with the Blues last season with four points (two goals, two assists) in six 2015 playoff appearances.
"He came here to see our doctor and rehab it," Armstrong said. "It wasn't getting any better, so surgery was necessary.
"We're looking at him being back sometime in early January, so it's going to open up some opportunities for our younger players."
