Angola, Senegal set for Group B showdown
Angola held on to defeat Morocco thanks to Edson Ndoniema's 11 points, while Gorgui Dieng led Senegal past Mozambique.
Reigning champions Angola edged past Morocco 68-67 on Saturday to continue their slow start to AfroBasket 2015.
Angola held on for a one-point victory, despite Omar Laanani hitting two free-throws for Morocco to drag the North Africans within touching distance of the title-holders with 20 seconds remaining.
Morocco led by five points heading into the final quarter but with small forward Edson Ndoniema leading the way for Angola with 11 points, the team that has won 11 of the past 13 AfroBasket titles notched their second straight win in Tunisia.
But Angola coach Moncho Lopez will no doubt want to see an improved performance from his side when they take on Group B leaders Senegal in their final preliminary round fixture.
Angola started their defence of the AfroBasket title with an 84-72 win over Mozambique.
On Saturday, Senegal trumped Mozambique 86-76 to stay ahead of Angola on points differential, with Minnesota Timberwolves centre Gorgui Dieng top-scoring with 28 points, while he also hauled down 18 rebounds.
In Group D, Cape Verde (4 points) moved a point clear at the top of the standings after accounting for Algeria 78-69, while Ivory Coast joined the latter on three points by overcoming Zimbabwe 64-52.
