Wozniacki keeps Niculescu quiet as she heads to the last eight
Danish star into the last eight with victory over Romanian star Monica Niculescu
World Number 1 Caroline Wozniacki progressed to the quarters of the Qatar Total Open with a straight sets 7-5, 6-1 victory over Monica Niculescu.
However, the win for the Danish star was not without controversy, after Wozniacki clashed with umpire Emmanuel Joseph over the noises made by her opponent in the first set.
With the game tied at 4-4, Wozniacki had a conversation with the Umpire in regards to the grunts made by Niculescu. This ended with the number one seed mimicking the noises made by the Romanian, noting "It's the only way that she can win."
Despite the incident, the Australian open winner regained her composure to take the first set 7-5.
The second set again swung in the Danish stars favour, as she powered through to win 6-1 to take the game. A match against Johanna Konta of Great Britan or Angelique Kerber of Germany awaits in the quarterfinals.
