Manchester City can return to the top of the Premier League on Wednesday evening, all be it on goal difference if they manage to get the better of Everton in a rearranged Premier League fixture. As ever, you will be able to follow the action from Goodison Park Live & Exclusive with beIN SPORTS & beIN CONNECT.
Everton has been poor recently only managing one win and three defeats in their last four games. The pressure is firmly on Marco Silva to deliver after a winless streak. The Toffees last won back to back league games in October, and although they are currently in ninth place their fans will be having aspirations of pushing for European football during the second half of the season.
The 3-1 home defeat summed up the frustrations of the Everton fans, who roundly booed Silva at the full-time whistle. A reaction will be needed midweek, especially as the Blues are building up for a Mersey Side derby against Liverpool in just three week’s time.
In injury news, Lucas Digne is expected to return to first-team action after sitting out the Wolves game through suspension. After being a subject of a bid from PSG, Idrissa Gueye has missed the last few games and it remains to be seen if the midfielder will be part of Silva’s plans for the visit of the Champions.
Everton Predicted Team
Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne; Davies, Gomes; Bernard, Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin
As for Manchester City, they bounced back from their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle with an emphatic 3-1 victory over top four rivals Arsenal. Sergio Aguero showed his enduring quality for the Citizens scoring a hat-trick as Peps side returned to winning ways.
With Liverpool drawing their last two games against Leicester & West Ham, the gap at the top is now just at three points, so a victory will mean that the defending champions return to the top of the table on goal difference, although Liverpool does have a game in hand on their title rivals.
It certainly seems that the momentum in the Premier League title race has shifted in favour of Manchester City. The Citizens ended last season strongly on route to lifting the title with a record points tally, and few are predicting a wobble from the side heading into the final furlong of the season.
In team news, Pep will likely rotate his squad with the match against Chelsea on the weekend in mind. Leroy Sane was an unused substitute in the Arsenal game and could start against Everton, the same could also be said for Riyad Mahrez who only had a short run out from the bench.
It will be interesting to see if Pep will continue to use Fernandinho in central defence or elect to pick John Stones to face his former side. Questions remain over the fitness of left-back Benjamin Mendy so one of Fabian Delph or Oleksandr Zinchenko could come in to cover for the French international.
Manchester City Predicted Team
Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Delph; Bernardo, Fernandinho, D.Silva; Mahrez, Aguero, Sane
