Tokyo Games organisers recommend five new sports to IOC
The schedule for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo could include five new sports after organisers put forward their suggestions on Monday.
Organisers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo have made recommendations to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to add five new sports to the schedule.
The suggestions would see an additional 18 medal events across baseball/softball, skateboard, sports climbing, surfing and karate incorporated into the programme.
If accepted, organisers say that an additional 474 athletes would take part in the Games.
Under new rules from the Olympic Agenda 2020 host cities are allowed to put forward recommendations for sports they feel should be included, with the IOC making the final decision.
