Spieth shares lead at Hero World Challenge
World number one Jordan Spieth carded 66 on day two at Albany and is joined at the top of the leaderboard by Bill Haas and Jimmy Walker.
Jordan Spieth and Bill Haas joined Jimmy Walker in joint first at the Hero World Challenge, with Zach Johnson and Paul Casey falling off the pace.
The world number one went a stroke better than his five-under 66 on day one in the Bahamas, with a lengthy putt for an eagle on the par-five 11th hole helping him on his way.
Spieth could have taken sole leadership of the competition had it not been for bogies on the third and fifth holes, but he recovered with a further five birdies to ensure a share of the lead.
"For the majority of the round, until 15, we had as score-able conditions as possible," Spieth said upon the completion of his second round.
"[It was] a rough start, but it was a great bounce-back to get seven birdies after being one over through four holes."
Walker also went a shot over on two holes, but things could have been worse had he not made a fantastic shot from the bunker to set up a birdie on the 15th.
There were eight players tied for the lead at one point on Friday, but Haas was the only other one to remain there with impressive approach play seeing him join the world number one on 11 under for the two days.
Open champion Johnson produced a memorable chip from below the green for a birdie on second hole, but fell to joint seventh, while a trio of bogies – two of which came in the closing four holes – sent Casey down alongside him.
Chris Kirk and Patrick Reed surged up the leaderboard as they each made an impressive seven-under 65 – the best scores of the day in Albany.
Justin Rose dropped to 17th with an even round, while Japan's Hideki Matsuyama was the only player in the field to card an over-par score – though it was a two-stroke improvement from his 75 on day one.
