Schmidt rules out taking England job
Joe Schmidt said he is "certainly not going anywhere" amid reports linking the Ireland head coach with the England job
Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has vowed that he has no intention of taking charge of England as speculation over Stuart Lancaster's future continues.
Schmidt, who has led Ireland to back-to-back Six Nations titles, is one of a host of names to be linked with the England job following their Rugby World Cup failure.
But New Zealander Schmidt said he would have no interest in the role if it were to become available as he turns his attention to winning a third Six Nations crown following Ireland's Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat to Argentina.
"I’ve stabbed it (talk of the England job) a few times, it will die pretty quickly I'm pretty sure." Schmidt told RTE television's Late Late Show.
"I'm absolutely committed to the group of young men who I work with. They are such a good group, I can't wait to get started post-Christmas, looking towards the Six Nations.
"We're going forward as best we can and I’m certainly not going anywhere."
Schmidt admitted it may have been a mistake to initially name Jonathan Sexton in the side to face the Pumas, only to have to replace the fly-half with Ian Madigan as he was not fully fit.
"One of the regrets I probably have now is Jonny's fitness was declared early in the week on the Wednesday. He trained on the Friday," he added.
"For Ian Madigan to come in, he really had a small window of about 25 minutes to really prepare himself for the Test. It is not a great window to prepare.
"We felt that Jonny was going to be okay and he trained okay. But we knew it was too much of a risk to put him out there."
