Penguins storm past Hurricanes as Sedin hits 1,000
The Pittsburgh Penguins continued their goalscoring ways in the NHL as Henrik Sedin hit a milestone mark.
The Pittsburgh Penguins eased to a 7-1 victory at the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL, getting a pair of goals from Conor Sheary.
The Penguins (29-11-5) have scored 18 goals in their past three games – all wins.
Included in their run was a remarkable 8-7 overtime victory against the Washington Capitals on Monday.
PROLIFIC PENGUINS
The Penguins scored four times in the second period of their win over the Hurricanes.
Bryan Rust, Sheary, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel and Justin Schultz each had two points for the Penguins, who scored the game's first six goals.
OH MY DARLING
Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling, making his first start since January 6, got his second shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over the Boston Bruins.
Darling stopped 30 shots in the win.
Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa got the game's lone goal with one minute, 26 seconds remaining in the third period.
The Blackhawks (29-14-5) have won six of their last eight games.
HENRIK THE GREAT
Vancouver's Henrik Sedin became the first player in franchise history and the seventh active player in the NHL with 1,000 career points. He scored Vancouver's first goal in a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers. The goal was bittersweet, coming against former Canucks team-mate Roberto Luongo.
The Nashville Predators got a shoot-out victory in Edmonton thanks to James Neal's game-winner in the 3-2 result.
THREE'S A CROWD
The Montreal Canadiens (28-13-6) were 3-1 winners over the New Jersey Devils (19-19-9) and the Buffalo Sabres (18-18-9) got a 3-2 victory against the visiting Detroit Red Wings (20-19-7).
Buffalo's Kyle Okposo scored the game-winner with 26 seconds remaining in overtime.
CAPITAL GAINS
The red-hot Capitals (30-9-6), fresh off a 7-3 win over the St Louis Blues on Thursday, head to Dallas to face a struggling Stars (19-20-8) team that have won just three times this month. The Caps, who have lost just once this month, have scored at least five goals in five straight games.
