Panthers extend streak to 11, Flyers get up
The Florida Panthers continued their amazing run of form in the NHL on Thursday.
The Florida Panthers continued their remarkable run of form with an 11th-straight win on Thursday, as they overcame the Ottawa Senators 3-2.
Aleksander Barkov scored an important third-period goal, putting the Panthers 3-1 up and out of sight of the Senators, with Milan Michalek's sixth goal of the NHL season proving merely a consolation.
Reilly Smith and Vincent Trocheck both scored their 12th goals of the campaign, before Barkov's third-period goal - which also proved his 12th of the season.
The Philadelphia Flyers won just their second game in five with a tight 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
The Flyers were looking good midway through the second period when quick goals from Michael Del Zotto and Ryan White put the visitors 3-1 up, but a late equaliser from Minnesota's Zach Parise made it 3-3.
Del Zotto scored his second of the game in overtime to seal the win for the Flyers.
The Washington Capitals stayed clear of the Panthers atop the Eastern Conference with a dominant 4-1 effort against the New York Islanders, while the Dallas Stars overcame the Winnipeg Jets with a 2-1 shoot-out win.
The Toronto Maple Leafs saw their three-match winning streak ended with a 2-1 loss against the Los Angeles Kings, while the Detroit Red Wings defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-1 courtesy of a Justin Abdelkader goal in the third period.
