Lavillenie to miss Diamond League in Doha
Renaud Lavillenie will miss the opening round of the Diamond League in Doha after suffering a shoulder injury on Sunday.
Olympic pole vault champion Renaud Lavillenie will not compete at the opening meet of the Diamond League in Doha due to injury.
The world record holder had been expected to feature in the event on Friday, but a shoulder injury has means he will not travel to Qatar.
Lavillenie was competing in the 4x100m relay at a national clubs competition in Lyon on Sunday when he fell crossing the finish line and that has forced his withdrawal.
"I was feeling fit and ready for the first real challenge of the season and I was really looking forward to competing in Doha," said the Frenchman.
"Unfortunately, the injury is preventing me from coming to Qatar, but hopefully I will have the chance to return to Doha in the near future."
The 28-year-old's manager Rene Auguin confirmed Lavillenie had escaped without suffering any ligament or tendon damage following the fall, but doctors advised him to rest for 10 days.
