Gebrselassie announces retirement
Two-time Olympic 10,000-metre champion Haile Gebrselassie has announced his retirement from competitive running.
Haile Gebrselassie, a two-time Olympic champion over 10,000 metres, has announced his retirement.
The Ethiopian confirmed the news following the Great Manchester Run on Sunday, bringing an end to his glittering 25-year career.
During that time, the 42-year-old set 27 world records, won eight world titles over 10,000m as well as Olympic gold in 1996 and 2000 over the same distance.
"I'm retiring from competitive running, not from running. You cannot stop running, this is my life," he told BBC Sport.
"I'm very happy to stop here. I knew this was going to be the last one."
