Flyers beat Capitals again, Islanders deny Panthers
The Philadelphia Flyers are hanging in there against the Washington Capitals after forcing a sixth game in their NHL play-off series.
The Philadelphia Flyers continued an unlikely comeback against Presidents' Trophy winners the Washington Capitals in their first round NHL Stanley Cup play-off series.
The Flyers triumphed 2-0 to bring the series back to 3-2 and force a sixth game.
Former Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth was outstanding in goal for the Flyers, making 44 saves to shut his old team out, allowing Ryan White and Chris VandeVelde to get the job done at the other end.
Meanwhile, the New York Islanders needed a goal in the second period of overtime to take a 3-2 series lead against the Florida Panthers thanks to a 2-1 victory.
Alan Quine scored a slap shot 16 minutes into the second period of overtime after Frans Nielsen's opener and third goal of the series for the Islanders was cancelled out by Aleksander Barkov for the Panthers.
The San Jose Sharks knocked out the Los Angeles Kings after winning game five to triumph in the series 4-1.
A 6-3 win on the night courtesy of two goals from Joonas Donskoi as well as goals from Chris Tierney, Matt Nieto, Melker Karlsson and Joe Pavelski - who scored his fifth goal of the series - was enough for the Sharks to progress to the second round.
Elsewhere, the Minnesota Wild forced a sixth game against the Dallas Stars after Mikko Koivu's goal 4:55 into the first period of overtime.
The Wild raced to a 2-0 lead after just over five minutes of the first period, but were pulled back to 2-2 before going 3-2 up.
The Stars responded to go 4-3 up and looked to be on their way to victory and the second round before Koivu forced overtime 16:51 into the third and then sealed the win.
