Most boxing matches need several months, maybe even a year, to attract national attention and intrigue. Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao, however, is no ordinary fight.

In the months leading up to the official announcement of the fight February 20 and in the days since, the fighters could not find a way to stay out of the news. On Wednesday, Pacquiao (57-5-2) and Mayweather (47-0) were in the same room for the first time since bumping into one another at an NBA game in on January 27.

Once promoters Bob Arum and Leonard Ellerbe went through the necessary thanks to several people on the stage with the fighters, the men on the ticket took the microphone in front of over 600 credentialed media members at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

"It’s been a long road, but we here now," Mayweather said. "May 2: The fight of the century. ... This is an unbelievable matchup, an action-packed fight."

Pacquiao spent most of his time at the microphone thanking God for the opportunity to fight on such a grand stage, but assured the fans they'll see everything they've hoped for when the gloves touch.

The May 2 bout is the richest pay-per-view event in history, touting a $99.95 price tag in the United States to watch the fight in high definition. 

Despite the steep pay-per-view price, records are expected to be shattered considering Mayweather's fight with Canelo Alvarez in September 2013 set the previous mark for pay-per-view revenue generated at $150 million and the all-time gate record of $20,003,150. His 2007 fight against Oscar De La Hoya set the pay-per-view buy record at 2.4 million.

Tickets have not been released for the fight, but Ellerbe said prices will range from $1,500 to $7,500 for ringside seats. The only complimentary ticket has already been offered to MMA superstar Ronda Rousey.

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach was quick to predict a dominant victory for the Filipino.

Mayweather, though, somehow avoided making a retort to Roach's bold claim, but did make sure to tell everyone where to be the night of boxing's most anticipated fight in recent memory.

He added: "I have to be thankful for us coming together as one to give the world what they want to see."
