Falcons back on track with Grenoble thrashing
Eight tries helped secure a bonus-point victory for Newcastle Falcons over Grenoble in the European Challenge Cup.
Newcastle Falcons got their European Challenge Cup campaign up and running with a comprehensive 50-7 victory over Grenoble in Pool 2.
The Falcons were humbled 45-0 by Ospreys in their continental opener last weekend but they showed no ill effects as they ran riot against the Top 14 side.
It was one-way traffic from the outset at Kingston Park as Newcastle reignited their quarter-final hopes with a bonus-point victory.
Within three minutes, Will Welch had crossed from close range and team-mates Will Witty, Sonatane Takulua and Mark Wilson also claimed tries of their own - Joel Hodgson kicking all four conversions.
A 28-0 half-time lead ended the game as a contest as Grenoble slumped to successive European defeats, their challenge not helped by Lilian Saseras and Eddie Sawailau spending time in the sin bin.
Newcastle took full advantage of their numerical supremacy to reach the 50-point mark in the second period - Marcus Watson scoring twice - with Sawailau grabbing a late consolation for the visitors.
