Etzebeth full of praise as Springboks great Matfield prepares to bow out
After playing his 127th and final international game for South Africa at the Rugby World Cup on Friday, veteran Victor Matfield will retire.
South Africa enforcer Eben Etzebeth is relishing the opportunity to play alongside retiring Springboks great Victor Matfield once last time.
Matfield will wear the armband in his 127th and final match when the Springboks face Argentina in Friday's Rugby World Cup third-play play-off.
The 38-year-old is South Africa's most capped player and a 2007 World Cup winner.
South Africa team-mate Etzebeth is determined to see the Springboks great bow out on a high at the Olympic Stadium.
"It has been a huge honour to play with Victor. A guy with 120 Tests for South Africa doesn't come around every day and it is a great chance to play alongside him in his final Test," Etzebeth told a news conference.
"Any young player can learn off him.
"He will always be remembered for many years to come. We want one more big performance, not just from him, but the entire team."
