England must avoid knee-jerk reaction - Easter
Stuart Lancaster's future hangs in the balance, but veteran Nick Easter has warned the RFU against acting hastily.
Nick Easter has urged the RFU to think carefully before deciding on the future of England coach Stuart Lancaster.
The Rugby World Cup hosts signed off from the tournament with a 60-3 thrashing of Uruguay on Saturday, a result that did little to paper over the cracks of a poor campaign.
Easter scored three of England's 10 tries and the 37-year-old wants to see a considered approach from the governing body.
"It's been disappointing, but there can't be any knee-jerk reactions," he said.
"You need time. It's got to be thorough. Speak to the players, speak to the manager and just make sure it's thorough and the right decisions are made.
"But I think the coaching staff will learn from this as much as the players. It's unfortunate our momentum stalled at the wrong time."
Despite England having thrown away the advantage to lose against Wales before being outclassed by Australia, Easter believes the future is bright.
He added: "I think it's actually really exciting. The pool of talent is there. The potential for world-class players is there. We were beaten by two very good teams.
"You've got to put your hands up. We worked hard, but just weren't good enough. But certainly we will be starting from February, when the next game is.
"There's enough guys with enough experience there and you're going to be a lot more resilient from what you've just been through.
"It's about getting the consistency and learning from the losses.
"That sort of education in the harshest of environments which we've had, these guys have got to remember it now because that's what will drive them on."
Asked whether he would make himself available for next year's Six Nations, Easter said: "I'll always be honest with myself. If I think that I can still do a job, I'll be available."
