The Detroit Tigers scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat the Cleveland Indians 9-6. 

A two-run eighth inning allowed the Indians to level the game at 5-5 but Ian Kinsler broke the tie in the ninth as the Tigers improved to a 5-0 win-loss record.

Kinsler, who finished with four hits and two RBIs, singled home a run at the top of the ninth, while Indians reliever Cody Allen gave up back-to-back walks to Andrew Romine and Rajai Davis.

The Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves also made it five wins from as many games on Saturday.

Second baseman Kendrys Morales had three hits to help the Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, while the Braves edged the New York Mets 5-3.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks both claimed 6-0 shutouts wins against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers respectively.

Reigning champions the San Francisco Giants were dismantled 10-2 by the San Diego Padres, the Chicago Cubs accounted for the Colorado Rockies 9-5, the Boston Red Sox downed the New York Yankees 8-4, the Baltimore Orioles routed the Toronto Blue Jays 7-1, while the Washington Nationals lost 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Texas Rangers prevailed 6-2 against the Houston Astros, the Chicago White Sox were too strong for the Minnesota Twins 5-4, the St Louis Cardinals were 4-1 winners over the Cincinnati Reds, the Tampa Bay Rays shutout the Miami Marlins 2-0 and the Seattle Mariners trumped the Oakland Athletics 5-4.

Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers — Corey Kluber may be the reigning AL Cy Young award winner, but with his two hits off Kluber, Cabrera increased his career average to .576 (19-for-33) vs. the right hander. Cabrera added two singles against the Indians bullpen to finish 4-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. 

Chris Archer, Tampa Bay Rays  — After allowing four runs (three earned) over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles on opening day, Archer bounced back in dramatic fashion, allowing just one hit in seven scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the Miami Marlins. Archer struck out five and walked only one batter.

Starlin Castro, Chicago Cubs — Castro hit his first home run of the season, finishing two-for-four with two RBIs.

KEY INJURIES

Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez exited against the Indians after feeling a pinch in the back of his left leg. Although the Tigers say Martinez is day-to-day, the injury is concerning. The 36-year-old had surgery in February to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. 

In the same game, Indians catcher Yan Gomes suffered a right knee sprain and needed assistance leaving the contest in the top of the ninth. The team said he will undergo an MRI on Sunday morning.
