International Olympic Committee launches Become the Light campaign
Become the Light campaign launched ahead of 2018 Winter Olympics
Ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang South Korea, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has launched the “Become the Light” campaign with the aim of boosting the Olympic spirit and creating excitement for the Winter Games which are set to open of the 9th of February 2018.
The promotion focuses on Winter Olympic athletes in creating light and being a force for positive change in the world and the athletes themselves as beacons of positivity to spread their values beyond the games. The campaign is further supported by four branded videos which further stress the International Olympic Committee’s key values of excellence, friendship and respect.
The campaign has a wider purpose, and is aiming to transform the life’s of over 55,000 refugees by providing electricity to refugees in camps through the International Olympic Committee’s partnership with the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR. 9 out of 10 refugees in camps have no access to electricity which stifles human interaction, education and physical activity.
The aim from the Become the Light campaign is to encourage the general public to sign up and participate via the Olympic + application to log physical activity, which in turn will be turned into “Light” with the aim of improving the life’s of thousands in refugee camps. Along with physical activity, you can donate money directly to the campaign here to transform the lives of refugees across the world.
With the help of the UNHCR, the IOC will implement a series of lighting solutions in refugee camps which will be split to cover the following areas:
· Street Lighting
· Sports Areas
· Households
· Community
