Massa proud of ninth place in career finale
Williams' Felipe Massa brought the curtain down on his F1 career on Sunday - and was delighted with how he did it.
Felipe Massa expressed pride in the way he finished his Formula One career after taking ninth at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Nico Rosberg held on to second place behind Lewis Hamilton to win the drivers' championship in Sunday's season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit.
But further down the field Massa was bringing down the curtain on a 15-season career in F1 in which he recorded 11 wins and 41 podiums.
The Brazilian claimed two world championship points by beating former Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso into ninth.
"I am so proud for the way I finished my career, I was fighting to the last lap," Massa told Sky Sports.
"I finish with my head up and with a lot of respect from all of the people. I'm really enjoying this moment. I'm happy."
Massa lavished on praise on Rosberg as well as Jenson Button, who saw what was likely his final race end on lap 13 due to a lower wishbone failure.
"Cannot forget Nico, he really deserved the championship," Massa added. "Also to Jenson, a nice guy, a nice driver, he deserved everything he got. He had a lot of love from the people in the same way I did in Brazil."
On his future, Massa said: "I learn a lot, I enjoy a lot. I hope I can find another one [racing series] I can enjoy in the same way I was enjoying Formula One."
