Heavy rain causes FP2 cancellation
Heavy rain and lightning has led to free practice two at the United States Grand Prix being cancelled, F1 has confirmed.
Free practice two at the United States Grand Prix has been cancelled due to heavy rain in Austin preventing the use of the medical helicopter should it have been needed.
The start was originally delayed after marshals had to evacuate due to lightning.
With the rain unrelenting the track was not to safe to drive on, while the drainage was clearly having trouble at the Circuit of the Americas.
And with no let-up in the rain Formula One posted on Twitter: "#FP2 Cancelled due to heavy rain in Austin #USGP #F1.
"The medical helicopter was unable to fly in the conditions, so race control called off the session #FP2 #USGP #F1."
