Ferrari engine or nothing for Red Bull, says Horner
Red Bull's F1 future remains unclear, and Christian Horner says their only option for an engine supplier next year is Ferrari.
Team principal Christian Horner says it will be "a Ferrari engine or nothing" for Red Bull in Formula One next season.
Red Bull dominated the constructors' championship between 2010 and 2013, with now-Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel also sweeping up four-straight drivers' titles.
However, long-term engine supplier Renault have struggled since regulations changed ahead of the 2014 season and the two are going through an acrimonious split.
Reports suggest that Volkswagen could enter F1 in time for 2018 by taking over Red Bull, while in the meantime Ferrari engines will be used.
Horner admitted that there is no other alternative if Red Bull are to be on the grid next season and urged F1's hierarchy to help come up with a solution or risk losing Red Bull and sister company Toro Rosso.
"The onus is really on the powers that be to come up with a solution or risk losing not only Red Bull, but also Toro Rosso as well," he told Sky Sports.
"There is a chance [of Red Bull leaving], how big that chance is doesn't depend on us, it depends on others. It is a Ferrari engine or nothing. Mercedes won't supply us and there is no other option.
"Ferrari have a great history of supplying strong customer engines and their engine certainly looks pretty strong at the moment.
"So, subject to concluding an agreement with Renault, that would be our priority."
