U.S., Mexico release 35-man preliminary rosters for CONCACAF Cup
The CONCACAF powerhouses revealed their preliminary squads ahead of next month's showdown for a place in the 2017 Confederations Cup.
The United States and Mexico released their preliminary rosters for the CONCACAF Cup, a one-game playoff to determine which nation will represent the region at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.
U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann named 35 players, while El Tri interim boss Ricardo Ferretti named only 32 squad members. Both coaches will cut their squads down to 23 players prior to the showdown at the Rose Bowl on Oct. 10.
The Americans will be led by team captain Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey, while Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez and Carlos Vela will guide Mexico, which forced the playoff after winning the 2015 Gold Cup in July.
Ferretti has decided to bring in Giovani dos Santos for now, after leaving the LA Galaxy star off his roster for September friendlies against Trinidad & Tobago and Argentina.
