Mali hold Zambia, Uganda miss out on CHAN quarters
Substitute George Sserenkuma scored deep in injury time to earn Uganda a 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in the Group D match at the Umugunda stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda on Wednesday.
But the result was not enough as both teams failed to make any breakthrough to reach the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championships.
Zimbabwe, who have qualified for all four CHAN finals since the championships' inception in 2009, were cruising to their first victory when William Manondo put them ahead four minutes after the interval.
But Kenya-based striker Sserenkuma equalised in the fourth minute of time added on for the Uganda Cranes to share the spoils.
The big match in the group between the two top sides, Zambia and Mali ended in a goalless draw at Kigali's Nyamirambo stadium.
Zambia, who have scored only two qoals from their three matches, topped the group with seven points, and will play Guinea in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
Mali collected five points from their two draws and a win against Zimbabwe to qualify and meet the Group C winners, Tunisia.
