Ireland captain William Porterfield said his side are not worried about playing on Bellerive Oval for the first time, when they tackle Zimbabwe in the Cricket World Cup on Saturday.

Opening batsman Porterfield is on the verge of leading his side to the quarter-finals, after banking wins over West Indies and United Arab Emirates.

However, victory over the African nation is crucial to Ireland's hopes of progressing out of Pool B, as they finish the stage against Test countries India and Pakistan.

Porterfield said his side were not feeling the pressure of expectation, and said they had some local knowledge to feed off ahead of their first clash in Hobart - with former Victorian batsman Matthew Mott in their coaching ranks.

"I think you ... assess things a lot from being here, and you've got nets, different things like that," Porterfield said. 

"You assess conditions, and I think couple of the lads ... I think Georgie [Dockrell] may have been down here before, but apart from that, not a lot of the lads would have played much cricket here. 

"But we've got Matthew Mott on board, as well; he's obviously Australian and he's been a big help in terms of different conditions, different climates, things like that, what's happening around the grounds. We'll draw a lot from him, as well."

Zimbabwe remain a mathematical chance of reaching the last eight, although realistically they are eliminated - they would need to beat Ireland and India, and rely on other results to fall in their favour.

Regardless, wicketkeeper and captain Brendan Taylor said they were still positive as they looked to get their second win of the tournament.

"It's surprisingly upbeat. We know we need to win this game," Taylor said. 

"We need a good performance. All three departments, we need to get that right. If we do that, there is no reason why we won't win convincingly. 

"But they're a good side. We're very much aware of that, but there's been times where we've batted and we haven't batted our 50 overs and that's hurt us. 

"Even though we've gotten 270, 280, and 290 ... the more demoralising one was Pakistan not getting over the line at 230. 

"So guys need to just put their heads down and get 30s and 40s aren't going to win us games. We need to carry on, kick on, and get that hundred. So that is the focus."
