Ireland captain William Porterfield says his side are taking one game at a time in their bid to make the Cricket World Cup quarter-finals.

A narrow five-run victory over Zimbabwe on Saturday pulled Ireland level on six points with South Africa and Pakistan in Pool B.

Ireland have also played a game more than West Indies - two points behind them in fourth - and face group leaders India and Pakistan in their last two pool matches.

"We're going into every game, there's two points up for grabs, and today was no different," said Porterfield. "We were wanting to make it three [wins] from four, but every game there's the same amount of points up for grabs, and the India game is no different.

"We've got to go into that looking to take two points and follow from there.

"It's very hard to say when you come in at the start of such a long tournament, what you will need, what you won't need, whatever," he said. "We just tried to break it down really and take each game as it comes, and whatever we need coming down to the last game, we need.

"But we just take this India game [on Tuesday] now and that's all we can look forward to.

"We've managed to deal with the West Indies game and the UAE game and not look past them, and there's so many things that can happen in all our games and so many things have happened.

"The India game is next up for us on Tuesday. We've got to freshen up when we arrive in Hamilton and be ready to go there."

Ireland benefited from the controversial dismissal of Sean Williams late in the Zimbabwean innings, with the 28-year-old caught by John Mooney, who appeared to have one foot touching the boundary.
