Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura will miss Saturday's meeting with Ireland at the Cricket World Cup due to injury and faces a race against time to be fit for his country's final pool match against India.

All-rounder Chigumbura, a veteran of 173 one-day international appearances, was injured in the field against Pakistan on Sunday.

He fell heavily on his left knee at the Gabba and has subsequently been diagnosed with a third-grade tear of the quadriceps muscle.

Zimbabwe team manager Christian Chiketa said: "The physiotherapist is working hard to try to get him ready, hopefully for the India match."

After facing Ireland in Hobart on Saturday in a game they must win to keep their qualification hopes alive, Zimbabwe will take on India at Auckland's Eden Park the following weekend.
