Buoyant Bangladesh face tricky Netherlands opener
Bangladesh will be confident heading into a difficult World Twenty20 opener against Netherlands after finishing second at the Asia Cup.
A buoyant Bangladesh will be looking to make a mark at the World Twenty20, starting with their opening Group A match against Netherlands in Dharamsala on Wednesday.
Bangladesh reached the quarter-finals of the Cricket World Cup for the first time in their history in 2015 and will be buoyed by finishing as runners-up in the Asia Cup.
After defeating defending World T20 champions Sri Lanka and Pakistan en route to the final, the Tigers fell at the final hurdle with an eight-wicket defeat against India.
Runners-up as hosts in 2014 and remaining in familiar subcontinental conditions, Bangladesh have been tipped to secure the solitary place in the Super 10 stage ahead of Ireland and Oman, who also compete in Group A.
However, Netherlands will provide stiff competition having advanced from the preliminary stage in the previous edition of the competition and entering on the back of a run that includes eight wins in their last 11 T20 matches.
The pair have met twice in T20s before, with one win apiece secured in July 2012.
Tom Cooper hit 231 runs in seven matches in the 2014 competition – second only to Virat Kohli – and will surely be key to Dutch hopes once more this year.
Bangladesh have one selection concern, with Mustafizur Rahman's fitness remaining unclear after he suffered a side strain in the Asia Cup win over Sri Lanka last month.
