Ravichandran Ashwin produced a superb bowling display as India claimed an easy nine-wicket Cricket World Cup win over the United Arab Emirates on Saturday.

The holders have made a stunning start to their title defence, claiming heavy victories against Pakistan and South Africa, and they quickly marched to a procession in Perth thanks to the spin of Ashwin.

Ashwin took 4-25 - tied for the second best haul by an India spinner at a World Cup - to help bowl the UAE out for 102 after 31.3 overs.

India never had any difficulty in chasing the lowest total of the World Cup so far, doing so for the loss of just one wicket with Rohit Sharma (57) and Virat Kohli (33) needing only 18.5 overs to guide them home.

Any hope of the UAE - who lost a thriller to Ireland in their previous encounter - pulling off the shock of the tournament was quickly put to bed as India ripped through their batting line-up.

Andri Berenger (4) departed in the second over and was soon joined in the pavilion by Amjad Ali (4), with Ashwin then accounting for Krishna Chandran (4) and Swapnil Patil (7) to leave the UAE on 41-4.

The wickets continued to tumble, Ashwin collecting two more to take four for the first time in an ODI, with the UAE's best performer Shaiman Anwar (35) the last to fall as they meekly surrendered.

There was something for the UAE to cheer about as Shikhar Dhawan (14) became the only victim of their bowling attack, Mohammad Naveed (1-35) dismissing thanks to a great catch just wide of backward point from Rohan Mustafa.

Dhawan's exit only served to accelerate India's progression, though, Kohli producing a stylish cameo in which he unsurprisingly found success with the cover drive while Rohit eased to his half-century in just 48 balls to get them over the line.
