Video - Warriors clinch first NBA title in 40 years
For the first time since 1975 and fourth time ever, the Golden State Warriors are NBA champions.
The Golden State Warriors claimed their first NBA championship in 40 years with a 105-97 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday.
NBA MVP Steph Curry had 25 points and eight assists in the win, with Andre Iguodala also finishing with 25.
Draymond Green finished with a triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists at the Quicken Loans Arena.
LeBron James went 13-of-33 from the field as part of his 32 points for the Cavs, while he pulled down 18 rebounds and had nine assists.
Timofey Mozgov (17 points and 12 rebounds) and Tristan Thompson (15 and 13) also finished with double-doubles for Cleveland.
J.R. Smith made three fourth-quarter three-pointers as he ended up with 19 points.
But the Cavs were left to rue 19 turnovers, which cost them 25 points.
Golden State were in control from the outset in Cleveland, with a 28-15 first quarter setting up their win.
Half of those points came from Cleveland turnovers, with the Cavs committing nine in the first quarter.
The Cavs pulled back into the contest by half-time before the Warriors surged clear once more.
Cleveland got within seven points before Curry and Iguodala pushed their team clear, only for the Cavs to rally once more.
Smith made a trio of three-pointers in less than a minute as the Cavs got within four late in the last term, but Curry held his nerve from the line and Iguodala made two-of-four to see out the Warriors' win.
It means the Cavs' wait for a first championship will continue.
