The Los Angeles Clippers have been fined $250,000 for violating NBA rules during their negotiations with DeAndre Jordan.

Jordan re-signed with the Clippers on a four-year deal last month after backing out of an apparent agreement to sign with the Dallas Mavericks.

Center Jordan's deal with the Clippers is reportedly worth $87million, but the NBA has made it slightly more expensive for the Western Conference franchise by handing out a sanction for "violating NBA rules prohibiting teams from offering players unauthorised business or investment opportunities".

A release from the league said the Clippers' presentation to Jordan on July 2 "included a potential third-party endorsement opportunity for the player".

NBA regulations prohibit franchises from offering a player anything outside of a contract with the team under the current collective bargaining agreement. 

Any other possible compensation from a third party is considered a violation of anti-circumvention rules.
