Match Report
Antoine Griezmann scored the first penalty given by VAR in World Cup history as France edged past Australia 2-1 in their Group C opener.
France were a long way from their best at the Kazan Arena, with their heralded attacking trio of Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele failing to ignite against a dogged Australian outfit.
After a disjointed first half, the game sparked into life shortly after the interval as referee Andres Cunha awarded a penalty to France after consulting VAR and deciding that Josh Risdon had clipped Griezmann just inside the area.
The Atletico Madrid striker's fierce spot-kick was cancelled out just four minutes later by another penalty, Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jedinak slotting home after Samuel Umtiti handled in the area.
Didier Deschamps' side looked to be heading for a disappointing start to their campaign, but Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba saw his deflected effort bounce off the crossbar and narrowly over the line 10 minutes from time to secure all three points.
France will hope for a more fluid performance against Peru on Thursday, while Australia will look to get their campaign back on track when they face Denmark.

79- Plenty of commitment from the Australian midfield.

Hello! Welcome to the Live Updates for France Vs Australia. Day three of the World Cup has four games, and Les Blues kick us off as they take on Australia in Kazan. Much has been made of the quality in the French side, and have even been talked up as potential World Cup winners in some quarters. Didier Deschamps team will be looking to set down a marker when they take on an Australian side who will be looking to frustrate their European opponents.
Preview
France will be looking to kick-start their group C campaign with a victory against Australia, who could prove to be a tough test for Les Blues, who are amongst one of the favourites for this year’s tournament. As ever you can watch the Live Stream of the game from the Kazan Arena Live & Exclusive on beIN SPORTS CONNECT.
Didier Deschamps’s side is crammed with talent, and could easily field two full-strength sides in the tournament. The preparation has gone well for Les Blues, with friendly victories over the likes of Russia, Ireland and Italy on route to their opening game in Kazan.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe is likely to start on the wing in the opening tie against the Socceroo’s and his pace will be crucial as France look to break quickly in the attack. Still only 19 years old, the precocious teenager has the potential to be one of the breakout stars of the World Cup, an early goal could go some way in sealing that reputation.
France Predicted Team
Lloris; Mendy, Varane, Rami, Pavard; Kante, Pogba, Tolisso; Mbappe, Lemar, Griezmann

As for Australia, they will be making their fourth consecutive World Cup finals. The Socceroos also have an experienced coach in Dutch tactician Bert van Marwijk who led his native Holland all the way to the final in 2010.
Australia has prepared well for the 2018 tournament, with a creditable 0-0 draw against Columbia and an impressive 4-0 win over the Czech Republic. A positive result against the French would set Australia up for getting out of group C, especially with games against Denmark and Peru upcoming.
Australia Predicted Team
Ryan; Risdon, Sainsbury, Jedinak, Behich; Luongo, Mooy, Leckie, Kruse, Irvine; Juric
Playmaker Aaron Mooy is set to start against France and will be charged to make the Socceroo’s tick creatively. Fresh from an impressive debut Premier League season with Huddersfield, Mooy is likely to be deployed as a playmaker against France and will be a threat from set-pieces for his side.
It promises to be an interesting match as France take on Australia in their opening game of B. You can watch all the action Live & Exclusive on MAX HD3 & beIN SPORTS CONNECT.
