Match Report
Eric Dier scored the decisive spot-kick as England won a World Cup penalty shoot-out for the first time, edging past Colombia 4-3 to set up a quarter-final against Sweden.
Harry Kane's sixth goal of the World Cup appeared enough to secure England's first knockout win at a major tournament in 12 years, the Three Lions captain scoring from the spot after he was fouled by Carlos Sanchez.
But Colombia took the last-16 tie into extra-time with a dramatic equaliser in the 93rd minute in Moscow on Tuesday, Yerry Mina climbing highest in the box to score a head in Juan Cuadrado's corner.
In the shoot-out, David Ospina plunged to his left to keep out Jordan Henderson's poor penalty and give Colombia the advantage, but Mateus Uribe struck the crossbar and Jordan Pickford denied Carlos Bacca brilliantly to give Dier the chance to win it for the Three Lions.
And the substitute kept his nerve, Dier drilling home his spot-kick even though Ospina dived the right way, with England now set to take on Sweden on Saturday in Samara.
The South Americans were without James Rodriguez due to injury and could have had Wilmar Barrios sent off in the first half when he appeared to aim a headbutt into Henderson's chest and chin.

Colombia will be targeting their first ever victory over England in Moscow to seal back to back quarter-final appearances at the World Cup.
Los Cafeterios has shown glimpses of quality in their group games but now will have to step it up another level against a youthful Three Lions. You can watch the stream of Colombia Vs England via beIN SPORTS CONNECT.
José Pékerman’s charges have worked well in their preferred system of 4-2-3-1 against Poland and Senegal. The biggest call th experienced Argentinian coach will be to include James Rodrigez in his side.
The Bayern Munich star only played 31 minutes against Senegal after departing with a reoccurring muscle complaint in his calf. More likely that a half fit Rodrigez will be made available from the bench, should Colombia need a moment of inspiration.
Juan Quintero is likely to benefit from the absence of Rodriguez and will be set for a role as the playmaker of the side. The Porto star, who has been on loan at River Plate for the second half of the season played a delightful ball to Falcao for his side second goal against Poland, and will be charged with doing the same against England.
Colombia Predicted team
David Ospina; Santiago Arias, Davinson Sanchez, Yerry Mina, Johan Mojica; Carlos Sanchez, Mateus Uribe; Juan Cuadrado, Juan Quintero, Luis Muriel; Falcao

As for England, confidence will be high in the camp despite a much changed side losing 1-0 to Belgium. Gareth Southgates side have shown glimmers of quality in the opening games against Tunisia & a weak Panama side, to convince many fans that "It's coming home" for the first time since 1966.
In reality, England have a poor record in knockout football at the World Cup. However, this young side has nothing to fear and will be looking to relay the ghosts of England teams past. Even more encouraging for the side will be the prospect of a quater-final against Sweden or Switzerland, although Southgate will be stressing to focus on the task at hand.
Jessie Lingard has impressed in his midfield role, and his stunning strike against Panama highlighted his class. Colombia may elect to sit back in the opening exchanges, and the pace and ability of the Man United player will be needed if the Three Lions are to break the deadlock early.
England Predicted team
Jordan Pickford; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire; Kieran Trippier, Dele, Jordan Henderson, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young; Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane
It promises to be a fascinating encounter as Colombia & England face off for a place in the quarter finals. Watch the Live & Exclusive stream of the game on MAX HD3 & beIN SPORTS CONNECT.
