Swiatek delighted with new coach Roig ahead of European clay swing
Iga Swiatek has endured a difficult 2026 campaign so far, but she is regaining her confidence under new coach Francisco Roig.
Iga Swiatek expressed her joy at working with new coach Francisco Roig as she prepares for the European clay swing.
The world number four has struggled so far in 2026, losing in the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, Qatar Open and Indian Wells.
Those defeats were compounded by a second-round exit at the Miami Open, where Swiatek lost in three sets to compatriot Magda Linette.
Swiatek decided to part ways with Wim Fissette and hire Roig, who worked with Rafael Nadal from 2005 to 2022, while more recently coaching Emma Raducanu.
"I'm really 鈥宧appy to start with Francis," Swiatek told a press conference in 鈥婼tuttgart.
"I was basically looking for someone with a good eye, really technical, but also a person 鈥媡hat is experienced enough to help me through some different kind of situations.
"I feel Francisco has lived through 鈦爀verything on tour.
"It's 鈥媑oing really amazing. I was able to find a new coach pretty fast, which is a positive thing because when you do that in the middle of the season, 鈥宨t's nice to have some security in that."
Swiatek will start the clay swing at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where she will look to gain some momentum ahead of next month's French Open.
The Pole has won four titles at Roland-Garros and recently gained advice from Nadal, who has the most French Open titles of any male or female player (14).
"I asked if it would be possible for him to come and maybe be some kind of inspiration, also hear 鈥宻ome feedback from him," Swiatek added.
"It was a privilege 鈥媡o have him on court. I honestly didn't have 鈥宮any expectations because I know he's super busy and he has a lot of stuff to do, even though he always has different projects and everything.
"Now I'll continue with Francisco. He'll be the person that 鈦爐akes care of the 鈦爓hole process. That's the 鈥宲lan for now."
