Jannik Sinner coasted into the semi-finals with a straight-sets victory over Learner Tien at Indian Wells on Thursday.

The world number two is chasing his first-ever title in California and made it into the last four with a 6-1 6-2 triumph over Tien in just 67 minutes.

Sinner started strong, and with an early break, raced into a 3-0 lead as Tien offered little resistance.

The American pulled a game back, but another three-game winning streak from the Italian saw him put one foot in the semi-final, and he did not back down despite Tien upping the pressure.

Sinner defended two break points in the second game of the second set, before storming into a 5-1 lead as he looked incredibly comfortable on serve.

Tien managed to hold on in the next game, but he only delayed the inevitable as Sinner held off two more break points before converting his first match point.

And he will face Alexander Zverev in the next round, with the German also seeking to end his wait for an Indian Wells title.

Zverev took just 83 minutes to brush aside Arthur Fils in a 6-2 6-3 victory, and became just the fifth player to complete the set of semi-final appearances at all nine Masters 1000 events.

Since 2020, Sinner (189) has claimed the most combined match wins at grand slam and Masters events, with his next opponent, Zverev (188), claiming the next-most over that span.

The 24-year-old has captured five of the six Masters 1000 titles played on hard courts, with this being the only one missing from his collection.

Should he lift the trophy this weekend, he would become just the third man after Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to complete the set, but Zverev will be determined to have his say.
