French Open: Raducanu slumps out in first round
Emma Raducanu's disappointing season continued as she slumped out of Roland-Garros in the first round on Sunday.
Emma Raducanu's French Open hopes were swiftly dashed as she slipped to a first-round loss to Solana Sierra.
Raducanu was dispatched 6-0 7-6 (7-4) at Roland-Garros on Sunday.
The 2021 US Open champion has endured a season disrupted by illness, and lost in the first round at the Strasbourg Open earlier this week in her only warm-up match on clay.
Raducanu's poor preparation did her no good as Sierra took the first set in just 25 minutes.
The Briton took time off court before the second set, but soon found herself 4-1 down.
However, Raducanu fought back brilliantly to level at 5-5, having broken Sierra's serve.
Sierra failed to serve out the win again and a tie-break was required, but Raducanu's resistance only went so far, and her focus will now swiftly switch to the British grass-court swing.
Elsewhere in Paris, Mira Andreeva overcame Fiona Ferro 6-3 6-3.
Data Debrief: Andreeva joins elite club
This Century, only Coco Gauff (15) and Kim Clijsters (14) have claimed more women's singles main draw wins at Roland-Garros as a teenager than Andreeva (12, equalling Ana Ivanovic).
Andreeva has won her first-round match in 12 of her first 13 grand slam appearances, only losing to Brenda Fruhvirtova at Wimbledon in 2024.
This marked Andreeva's 15th main draw match at Roland-Garros (11-3), as she became the youngest player to reach this milestone since Martina Hingis in 1998.
