Endrick Rescues Lyon in Vigo Against Celta With an 87th-Minute Goal
A late strike from Endrick secured a 1-1 draw for Olympique Lyon against Celta de Vigo at Balaídos. The Brazilian forward scored in the 87th minute to prevent defeat after the French side dominated large stretches of the match.
The clash between Celta de Vigo and Olympique Lyon featured long periods of pressure from the visiting side and a resilient defensive effort from the Spanish club. For much of the match, the team coached by Claudio Giráldez was forced to defend deep against Lyon’s constant attacking threat.
From the opening minutes, Olympique Lyon controlled possession and created several chances. With Endrick leading the attack and Corentin Tolisso orchestrating play in midfield, the French side consistently pushed the action toward the goal defended by Ionut Radu.
Celta Holds On Despite Playing With Ten Men
Despite Lyon’s dominance, Celta de Vigo struck first. In one of the home side’s few attacking moves, Matías Vecino carried the ball forward and delivered a precise pass to Williot Swedberg, who beat his defender before setting up Javi Rueda to score the opening goal.
The strike was a valuable reward for the Galician side, who spent most of the match focused on defensive organization.
The situation became even more difficult for Celta de Vigo early in the second half when striker Borja Iglesias was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for an elbow on Clinton Mata.
Down to ten men, Claudio Giráldez’s team dropped even deeper to protect their lead. The coach reinforced the left side of the defense by introducing Mihailo Ristic, hoping to slow down the dangerous runs of Endrick, who had already become a constant threat.
Endrick Delivers in the Final Minutes
As time went on, Olympique Lyon’s pressure intensified. Goalkeeper Ionut Radu produced several important saves to keep his team in front, including an impressive stop against Roman Yaremchuk, who had been set up by a brilliant pass from Endrick.
Just when it seemed Celta de Vigo might hold on for a crucial victory, Lyon finally found their breakthrough.
In the 87th minute, Endrick took advantage of space inside the penalty area and calmly finished to level the score, capping off a strong individual performance.
The late equalizer not only saved Olympique Lyon from defeat but also leaves the tie wide open heading into the second leg in France, where Celta de Vigo will now have to fight for qualification on the road.
