Luisao Spoke Out Against the Incident Between Vinícius and Prestianni, and Received Threats and Insults for Speaking Out
The former Benfica captain received criticism, insults, and threats for speaking out against what happened in the match against Real Madrid
The incident and confrontation
During the first leg of the Champions League playoff between Benfica and Real Madrid at the Estádio da Luz, there was an incident between Gianluca Prestianni and Vinícius Júnior.
This confrontation has left a lot of collateral damage and has spread across the media and social networks.
Luisão spoke out
Anderson Luis da Silva, a former player of the Portuguese club, had spoken out against the exchange between Prestianni and Vinícius, for which he received threats and insults.
The former Benfica captain said he was called "monkey and Judas", and was warned never to step foot in the Estádio da Luz again.
The statement
This reaction came from a comment made by the player who said the following: "This shirt is very big. I love Benfica, it's my second skin, but you have to be worthy to wear this sacred shirt. What Prestianni says makes everything worse. Football is won with race, with fight. It was a racist act, yes, and I'm ashamed of it. I defend the shirt, and I have experience; I know what I'm talking about. I'm not judging anyone. I'm just saying that Benfica is too big to be involved in this, whether it's true or not. Although from experience, I know the truth."
The statements come after Benfica defended the Argentine player accused of racially insulting Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior.
The governing body of European football, UEFA, said that an ethics and discipline inspector has been appointed to investigate the accusations of discriminatory behavior presented by Real Madrid. Therefore, we may soon have an answer about the situation and about possible sanctions or measures.
