Reece James Secures Chelsea Future With Six-Year Deal
Chelsea captain Reece James commits his future to the Blues with a six-year extension, strengthening the club’s long-term vision under Liam Rosenior.
Reece James has committed his long-term future to Chelsea F.C. after signing a new six-year contract, a move manager Liam Rosenior described as securing “the best player in the world in his position.” The 26-year-old England international, a product of Chelsea’s academy, made his senior debut in September 2019 and has since become one of the most important figures at Stamford Bridge. His new deal reportedly maintains a structure based on individual and team performance incentives and makes him the club’s highest-paid player, earning around £250,000 per week.
Rosenior, who took charge in January after replacing Enzo Maresca, admitted he was thrilled to secure the defender’s long-term commitment.
“I can’t stop smiling,” Rosenior said. “Reece had many opportunities to leave this club. It’s not just about the size of the club where he grew up, but also his belief and trust in what we are building and where we want to go. We’ve had many conversations about it. For him to sign and place his faith in us is a huge step.”
James admitted he could have earned more money elsewhere but emphasized that loyalty and happiness mattered more.
“Money isn’t everything. This club is my home, the place I love and where I want to be. Happiness and being where I truly want to be means more to me. I want to win here, and we will win here,” he said.
During his time with the Blues, James has already lifted major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup. He also helped Chelsea win the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League. After battling several injuries in recent seasons — including hamstring surgery in 2023 — the Chelsea captain has regained momentum this campaign. He has started 19 of his 26 appearances in the Premier League, bringing his total to 225 matches for the club.
James is also determined to reestablish himself with the England national football team, with his sights set on the 2026 FIFA World Cup after missing the last two major international tournaments through injury.
“I grew up at this club. This was the only team I wanted to play for,” James said. “I’ve won major trophies here, and I believe the club is on the right path to win many more.”
