Erling Haaland continues to demand the highest standards from himself at Manchester City. Despite scoring and providing an assist against Liverpool, the Norwegian striker delivered a self-critical assessment after the Sky Blues’ victory, insisting he has not been decisive enough in the Premier League title race.

Haaland set up Bernardo Silva and converted a penalty to keep City firmly in contention, but made it clear that he expects more from his own performances.

Haaland sends a warning to the Premier League

With his goal at Anfield, Haaland reached 21 for the season and now holds a three-goal lead over Igor Thiago of Brentford. Even so, the forward admitted he has not done enough since the start of 2026.

“You could say I haven’t scored enough goals since the beginning of the year, and I know I have to improve. I know I have to be sharper and improve in all these areas, and that’s something I need to work on. I have to keep going because that’s what everyone deserves and expects,” Haaland told reporters after the clash with the Reds.

Haaland refuses to blame fatigue for his scoring output

The Norwegian had previously formed a partnership with Omar Marmoush, who is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Haaland insisted that fixture congestion will not be used as an excuse.

“I don’t want to talk about why I haven’t performed. I don’t think there’s any excuse. Fatigue is mostly in the head. There are a lot of games. Look at the calendar, it’s not easy, and for me it’s about staying fit and not getting injured. That’s the most important thing. And trying to be ready to help the team,” he explained.
