Bruno Fernandes Breaks Historic Premier League Assist Record
Bruno Fernandes delivered a historic season for Manchester United after becoming the player with the most assists in a single Premier League campaign. The Portuguese midfielder surpassed records previously held by legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
The 2025-26 season will forever be remembered in the career of Bruno Fernandes and in Premier League history. The Manchester United captain broke the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season after reaching 21, surpassing the historic mark shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who both recorded 20.
The Portuguese playmaker secured his historic assist during the clash against Brighton, delivering a perfect corner kick that was headed home by Patrick Dorgu. That moment capped off a remarkable campaign for Fernandes, who also finished the season with eight goals and was named Premier League Player of the Season.
His performances once again highlighted his importance to the Manchester United project, especially during a season where the club relied heavily on its leaders to remain competitive.
A Season for the History Books
Since arriving from Sporting CP in 2020, Bruno Fernandes quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most influential players. However, this season saw him reach another level thanks to his ability to consistently create scoring opportunities.

Beyond the numbers, the Portuguese star stood out for taking responsibility in key moments and becoming the team’s main creative force. His chemistry with players such as Bryan Mbeumo, Rasmus Højlund, and Marcus Rashford proved vital to United’s attacking success.
Fernandes himself acknowledged the significance of surpassing icons like Henry and De Bruyne, two players he described as among the greatest to ever play in the Premier League.
Fernandes Credits His Teammates
Despite the individual recognition, the Manchester United captain made it clear that the record also belongs to his teammates. Fernandes emphasized that creative players depend on clinical finishers to turn chances into assists.
“These records only exist because of my teammates,” the Portuguese midfielder explained after reaching the milestone.
With 106 goals and now a historic assist record to his name, Fernandes continues to cement his status as one of the club’s most important players of the modern era. His leadership will also be crucial for both Manchester United and Portugal heading into the 2026 World Cup.
