(VIDEO) All the Goals from Manchester City vs Leeds United in the Premier League
Phil Foden delivered a late brace to rescue Manchester City in a dramatic battle against Leeds United, in one of the most intense matches of the Premier League season.
Foden Saves City in Final Minutes
With Manchester City seconds away from dropping two vital points in the Premier League title race after Leeds United clawed back from 2–0 down, Phil Foden stepped up as the unexpected hero, securing a 3–2 win that keeps Pep Guardiola’s team firmly in the hunt for the trophy.
The English midfielder — who had already scored the opener just 59 seconds into the match — sealed the victory with another clinical strike in added time, cooling off the narrative of Erling Haaland dependence and carrying the offensive burden himself when it mattered most.
The No. 47 struck early in the fastest goal of the current season, finishing off a smooth combination between Bernardo Silva and Matheus Nunes, beating Haaland to the cross and firing the ball off the crossbar and in.
Leeds Fight Back Behind Calvert-Lewin
The quick 1–0 and the subsequent 2–0 — scored by Josko Gvardiol after a poor block from Lucas Perri — made it seem like City were cruising toward a routine victory. But at halftime, manager Daniel Farke shifted the narrative: he removed Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto, bringing in an extra center-back and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who transformed the match for the visiting side.
The English striker, whose career has been hampered by injuries, cut the deficit after a major mistake by Matheus Nunes and later earned the penalty that led to the equalizer. Gvardiol brought him down inside the box, leaving Nmecha to take the spot kick. He initially missed against a sharp Gianluigi Donnarumma, who guessed correctly and stretched low — but the rebound fell right to the German forward, who tapped it into an empty net to make it 2–2.
Foden Erases the Ghosts and Lifts Manchester City
With 25 minutes left, the ghosts of last season — when City repeatedly let leads slip — threatened to return. But once more, Foden delivered. In stoppage time, after Omar Marmoush narrowly missed a winning header for Leeds, Foden collected the ball inside the box, weaved past a defender, found the gap, and beat Perri with a composed finish to clinch the three points.
Haaland did not score in this one — but this time, City didn’t need him. The win allows Manchester City to recover from back-to-back losses vs Newcastle United and Bayer Leverkusen, remaining second in the table four points behind Arsenal, who visit Chelsea on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Leeds United, one of this season’s promoted clubs, continue to struggle near the bottom, sitting third-from-last with just eleven points.
