Why Philippe Coutinho did not join LA Galaxy in MLS
Major League Soccer has often delivered high-profile signings, but that will not be the case for Philippe Coutinho, at least not this season.
Major League Soccer has often delivered high-profile signings, but that will not be the case for Philippe Coutinho, former Vasco da Gama player, at least not this season.
The Brazilian midfielder will not join LA Galaxy, despite reports linking him with the club.
LA Galaxy explains Coutinho decision
Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz addressed the situation and suggested that talks may have taken place, but the club prioritized other objectives.
“Where there is smoke there is fire. However, that doesn’t change what I said previously about the group we currently have,” he said on the Cobi Jones podcast.
Kuntz also explained that the club evaluated many players during the offseason.
“We looked at several very interesting and high-level profiles, but the reality is that we wanted to bring the group together as soon as possible and have the squad completed early”.
Because of that approach, LA Galaxy did not want to wait for timelines that did not align with that objective.

Beckham and other major LA Galaxy signings
LA Galaxy, one of the most historic clubs in MLS, has been known for high-profile signings.
That trend began with David Beckham’s arrival in 2007, a move that transformed the league’s global image.
Later, players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giovani dos Santos, Marco Reus, Robbie Keane, and Riqui Puig also joined the club.
