Lionel Messi is thinking about his future, and there’s a possibility he could leave MLS and return to Barcelona
The Argentine star is nearing the end of his career and will have to decide whether to stay in MLS after the World Cup or seek a change of scenery
Messi in Barcelona
Messi could return to Barcelona as a project of the new board elected after the elections. Today, the Argentine player is playing in Major League Soccer and, with his sights set on the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, he will seek to defend the title with his Albiceleste squad, who were world champions last time in Qatar.
Messi's future ties
Messi’s future is complicated, and he has already been linked with several teams, including some that tap into his personal history, such as Newell’s Old Boys, and in this case, Barcelona. Although Lionel Messi didn’t leave Barcelona on the best of terms, it could end up being one of the possible destinations for the Argentine star and his retirement from professional soccer. There was an attempt to bring La Pulga back to Spanish football and have him represent Barcelona wearing the number ten that defined both the club and the league for so long.
The current situation of Inter and Messi
At Inter Miami, Lionel Messi is comfortable and happy for the time being, considering that staying in Major League Soccer could benefit him since the United States will be the main host of the World Cup and it would allow him to familiarize himself with the stadiums and pitches, potentially giving him some kind of advantage and experience. After the World Cup, however, it could be a different story, and if Lionel Messi is going to retire, the options he has expressed an intention to pursue in the past are two: one of them is Barcelona.
