FC Cincinnati 6-2 Orlando City SC: Five-star Evander leads thumping comeback win
FC Cincinnati moved up to seventh in the Eastern Conference with their comeback against Orlando City SC inspired by Evander.
Evander played a starring role, having a hand in five goals, as FC Cincinnati came from behind to thrash Orlando City SC 6-2 in MLS on Saturday.
The Brazilian scored twice and had three assists at TQL Stadium to help end Cincinnati's three-match winless streak.
Martin Ojeda opened the scoring for Orlando in the 16th minute from the penalty spot after Tiago was fouled by Kyle Smith.
But Kenji Mboma Dem headed in from an Evander corner to pull Cincinnati level in the 42nd minute, with the latter then finding the net five minutes later to flip the script.
Ojeda hit straight back after the break, curling a lovely free-kick into the top-right corner three minutes into the second half, but Mboma Dem struck again to put Cincinnati back in front shortly after.
Evander gave the hosts a two-goal cushion just before the hour, driving a low shot into the net, and he then set Kevin Denkey up for his fifth to secure all three points.
But Tom Barlow still added some more late gloss, coming off the bench to get his fifth goal of the season in stoppage time and sending Cincinnati into the World Cup break with a win.
There was another eight-goal thriller in the Eastern Conference as D.C. United and CF Montreal played out a 4-4 draw, with Prince Osuwu scoring a hat-trick to help the visitors come from behind to salvage a point.
Nashville SC will lead the East for the break, though, with their 2-1 win over New York City FC ensuring Inter Miami will not be able to leapfrog them after their game on Sunday.
In the West, Brian White got two goals and two assists to help the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 4-2 win over 10-man San Diego FC to stay top of the pile.
It was a needed win as well, as the San Jose Earthquakes remain hot on their tail after a 3-1 win away to the Portland Timbers.
Data Debrief: Going out on a high
With MLS halting so the World Cup can take centre stage, Evander ensured Cincinnati were on the right side of a high-scoring match, something that has not happened this season.
He has been involved in 12 goals in his last five matches (seven goals, five assists), and against Orlando, created nine chances and had four shots as he paved the way.
Cincinnati massively over-performed their 3.23 expected goals (xG), having 22 shots, 11 of which were on target, while Orlando racked up 2.47 xG with 19 attempts. And both sides also hit the woodwork.
