Marseille let victory slip in dramatic 2-2 draw with Paris FC
Just when Marseille looked set for a routine win, Paris FC struck late to snatch a dramatic point in stoppage time.
Marseille in control from the opening whistle
Olympique de Marseille imposed themselves early at Stade Jean-Bouin, dictating the tempo and pinning back Paris FC, who opted for a compact shape and quick transitions. The visitors’ high press and wide play steadily tilted the match in their favor.
The breakthrough arrived in the 19th minute when Mason Greenwood calmly converted from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a handball inside the box. The goal marked Greenwood’s 13th of the Ligue 1 season, underlining his growing influence under Roberto De Zerbi.
Aubameyang doubles the lead as Marseille cruise
The pattern remained unchanged after the break. Marseille came out aggressively and were rewarded in the 54th minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished from close range at the far post, following a sharp move down the right flank.
At 0-2, Marseille appeared firmly in control and nearly put the game to bed when Leonardo Balerdi saw his header crash off the post with Kevin Trapp beaten.
Paris FC respond and sense an opening
The match shifted dramatically in the final ten minutes. A poorly defended set piece allowed Mbow to deliver into the box, where Jonathan Ikoné rose unmarked to head past Gerónimo Rulli, cutting the deficit and reigniting belief inside Jean-Bouin.
The goal lifted Paris FC, who pushed forward with renewed energy as Marseille began to lose their defensive composure.
Stoppage-time penalty seals late equaliser
Just when the points seemed secure, disaster struck for the visitors. In the second minute of added time, Rulli mistimed his challenge while coming for a cross and caught Munetsi inside the area. The referee pointed straight to the spot.
At 90+4’, Ilhan Kebbal kept his nerve and sent Rulli the wrong way, completing a dramatic 2-2 equaliser that sparked wild celebrations among the home supporters.
A draw with contrasting emotions
The result keeps Olympique de Marseille third in Ligue 1 with 39 points, but the manner of the draw will feel like a missed opportunity. For Paris FC, the point feels invaluable, lifting them to 21 points and 13th place, strengthened by a comeback built on resilience and belief.
A thrilling encounter with a cruel ending for Marseille — and a reminder that in Ligue 1, no match is decided until the final whistle.
