Víctor Font Complains About Lamine Yamal and Busquets Appearing With Joan Laporta: “Trying to Confuse People”
Presidential candidate Víctor Font criticized the public positioning of Lamine Yamal and Sergio Busquets alongside Joan Laporta during the FC Barcelona presidential elections, accusing the current president of using club figures to influence members.
The presidential elections at FC Barcelona once again generated tension within the club’s environment. While thousands of members headed to the Spotify Camp Nou to cast their votes and decide the future leadership of the Catalan club, controversy arose following remarks from candidate Víctor Font, who questioned several public appearances linked to the campaign of Joan Laporta.
The businessman, who leads the “Nosaltres” project, expressed his discomfort with the presence of both former and current players in situations that could be interpreted as political support during the election process.
Among the figures mentioned were former club captain Sergio Busquets and rising star Lamine Yamal, one of the most promising young players in the FC Barcelona squad.
Font Criticizes the Use of Barcelona Figures
The criticism from Víctor Font came after Sergio Busquets appeared alongside Joan Laporta at the stadium during election day. The image did not sit well with the opposing candidate, who argued that such gestures could confuse members of FC Barcelona.
According to Font, players should remain neutral during internal club elections, as they represent the sporting identity of the institution rather than a particular presidential campaign.
“The players belong to FC Barcelona, not to FC Laporta,” said Víctor Font while speaking to reporters outside the Spotify Camp Nou.
Font also raised concerns about the relationship between Lamine Yamal and individuals close to the club president, suggesting that certain personal connections may be influencing the public perception of the election.
A Heated Election Climate at Barcelona
The presidential vote has generated strong participation among FC Barcelona members. From early in the morning, fans from different cities—and even from abroad—arrived at the stadium to take part in the decision.
Several well-known figures connected to the club were also seen at the venue, including Aitana Bonmatí, Héctor Fort, and goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, although the German shot-stopper was unable to vote.
For Víctor Font, the large turnout reflects a growing desire among supporters to open a new chapter for the club.
The candidate emphasized that many members want greater transparency in the management of FC Barcelona, as well as a more inclusive structure that reconnects the club with its historical figures.
“There is a strong mobilization of the members. Many people want to turn the page and build a more transparent and united Barcelona,” Font stated.
