Real Madrid Opens the Door for Vinicius Jr. To Leave for Al-Ahli as Soon as Possible
Saudi Arabia is not giving up on Vinícius Jr. The Brazilian forward has become the top target for the Gulf nation as they look to make him the face of their league in the coming years. Back in early 2025, an astronomical offer was reportedly on the table: $1.162 billion over five years, including $348 million for Real Madrid. At the time, the Spanish club refused to even consider it, pointing directly to his $1 billion release clause. But now, the scenario may have changed.
The Saudis want him at all costs and money is no issue
According to Ben Jacobs from TalkSPORT, Saudi negotiators are closely monitoring Vinícius’s contract situation and are preparing a world-record $400 million bid, surpassing the $222 million PSG paid for Neymar in 2017.
While Vinícius remains under contract until 2027 and has publicly stated his desire to stay at Real Madrid, he still hasn’t signed a renewal. This delay has caused concern among the club’s leadership, who are reportedly growing impatient with the stance taken by the player’s camp.
Talks between Saudi Arabia and Vinícius’s representatives have been ongoing for over a year. In April, sources in Riyadh believed the deal was impossible, thinking the extension with Madrid was already done. However, the lack of progress in recent weeks has revived Saudi optimism, and they now have a clear timeline: sign him as soon as possible or no later than the 2027/28 season.
Club stance hardens amid agent pressure
Although Vinícius still prioritizes staying in Madrid, the club is unwilling to give in to what it sees as pressure tactics from his agents. While a transfer seemed unthinkable just months ago, a mega-money deal is no longer off the table if contract demands spiral out of control.
According to reports from England, Vinícius likely destination would be Al-Ahli, home to stars like Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Franck Kessié and the current Asian Champions League winners, with a ticket already booked for the 2029 Club World Cup.
The longer the contract talks drag on, the more determined and opportunistic Saudi Arabia’s approach becomes. In fact, even if Vinícius signs a new deal with Madrid, they’re expected to return with another offer next season.
Ego battle with Mbappé?
Vinícius and his representatives reportedly see Kylian Mbappé’s arrival as a threat. During renewal talks, they’ve demanded that Vinícius become the highest-paid player in the squad, a stance that has not gone down well with Florentino Pérez. The club views this as more of an ego issue than a financial one — and has made it clear: if forced to choose, they will back Mbappé.
An underwhelming season
On the pitch, the 2024/25 season has been disappointing for Vinícius, continuing the dip in form that began after missing out on the Ballon d'Or. He’s lost his spark and decision-making edge, especially in key matches against Liverpool, Barcelona, and PSG.
Vinícius played in 58 of Real Madrid’s 68 matches, scoring 22 goals and providing 19 assists, most of them in the first half of the season.
End of an era?
Vinícius Jr. is no longer the centerpiece of Real Madrid’s project. His influence has waned, and both the club and the fans seem less inclined to support him. In this context, a move to Saudi Arabia — potentially with Al-Ahli — could offer him a fresh start and a chance to regain his status on a different stage.
