Oliver Kahn Launches Criticism Against Real Madrid
The choice of coach for Real Madrid for the upcoming season is still unclear. On one side, José Mourinho appears as a real possibility, while Jürgen Klopp is also mentioned as one of the most attractive options. In this context, legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn made a strong statement: if he were Klopp, he would not accept managing the Spanish giants, because he believes that at the club, players hold too much power.
In an interview, the “Titan” was direct when speaking about the German coach’s style and what the Madrid environment represents. “Klopp likes to build, and he works with a defined system. Real Madrid is a group of individuals, superstars who flatly refuse to accept any imposed tactical concept,” said Kahn.
Power Dynamics Inside the Real Madrid Dressing Room
The former goalkeeper’s comments were harsh, but the club’s current situation seems to partially support his analysis. Kahn also pointed to the relationship between coach and dressing room as a key factor for success in a team full of star players. “We saw it with Xabi Alonso… as a coach you have authority, you can connect with players and convince them of your system,” he explained.
That balance was clearly seen with Zinedine Zidane, who managed a star-studded squad and won three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. Carlo Ancelotti also built that connection with the group and secured multiple trophies with the club. Even in the era of the Galácticos, Vicente del Bosque managed to handle major stars and lead the team to European success.

Tensions, Rumors, and Possible Changes on the Bench
Kahn’s statements gain even more weight due to recent rumors inside the Real Madrid dressing room. Reports have mentioned tensions between Álvaro Arbeloa and Dani Ceballos, as well as alleged conflicts involving Kylian Mbappé and some teammates, who question his defensive commitment.
Real Madrid could go two consecutive seasons without a title, which is why the sporting hierarchy is seeking a major revolution from the bench. The goal is to find someone capable of managing egos and regaining control of the squad. Mourinho and Klopp are among the candidates, but for Kahn, the German coach would not fit into that environment.
